This policy was rewritten for the current version of Grouppin. Earlier versions shared location only for the duration of a single event and discarded it afterwards. Grouppin now keeps a location history for you, so what we collect and how long we keep it has changed. Please read the sections on location history and background collection.
Information We Collect
- Account information — your email address, display name, and profile photo if you upload one.
- Location data — your precise GPS position, together with speed, heading, and accuracy, collected continuously while location sharing is enabled, including while the app is in the background or closed.
- Location history — the trips and stays derived from that data, kept so you can look back over previous days.
- Battery level — only if "Share Battery Level" is enabled in Profile. It is on by default and you can turn it off at any time.
- Saved places — addresses you choose to save, such as Home or Work, and any arrival or departure alerts you set on them.
- Device token and time zone — used to deliver push notifications and to show times correctly. We do not use these for advertising.
Background Collection
Grouppin collects location in the background so that your history, your live position, and your place alerts keep working while the app is closed. iOS shows its own location indicator while this happens, and you can withdraw the "Always" permission at any time in Settings → Grouppin → Location. Withdrawing it stops background collection; the app will keep working while it is open.
How We Use Your Information
- To show your live location to the people you have chosen to share with.
- To build your own timeline of trips and stays.
- To send the arrival and departure alerts you have set up.
- To send push notifications, and to authenticate your account securely.
Who Can See Your Location
Only people you have explicitly shared with — members of your circles, and anyone you have granted a direct location share. Sharing is mutual and you can stop it at any time from the app. Your location history is visible only to you and to the people you are actively sharing with.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Retention
Your location history is kept until you delete it or delete your account — it is no longer discarded automatically, because its purpose is to let you look back over it.
- Profile → Clear Cache & Data removes the history stored on your device.
- Profile → Delete Account permanently deletes your account and all associated data, including your location history, immediately.
Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. We use industry-standard practices to protect your information.
Children
Grouppin is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
